National survey reveals that 19% of homeless people are not even a daily meal and proves that these Brazilian reality is far from the citizenship and dignity

In the dictionary, is the homeless person living in extreme material deprivation, can not guarantee its survival with its own resources. Walking the streets of Brazilian cities are faced with this sad reality and that is not lost on anyone, even if it brings mixed feelings and reactions.

In Brazil, in April 2008, the Ministry of Social Development and Fight Against Hunger released a survey of homeless people conducted in 71 municipalities. The survey revealed that 82% of homeless people are male and 53% between 25 and 44 years. The main reasons that led these people to live and homelessness are problems of alcoholism and drug abuse, unemployment and family quarrels.

The data, scary and sad, also shows the harsh reality of the homeless and the lack of the basic precepts of dignity and citizenship: 24.8% do not have any identification documents, 19% fail to make at least one meal a day , 61.6% do not exercise the right of citizenship is elementary that the vote because of lack of voter registration, 29.8% have been prevented from using public transportation, 48.4% were unable to go into banks and government agencies and 18 4% were not attending public health.

The begging, however, is not exclusive to Brazil. There are no global statistics and research on the homeless population, but the truth is that this portion of the population exists not only in developing countries but also between the richest and most developed nations on the planet. According to an article published in the Journal Building, there are three million homeless in the United States and in ten years, the likelihood is that American streets are filled with more homeless people than they ever were before.

In Europe, the population living on the streets also permeates the urban landscape. According to the Tribune newspaper press, in Rome, dozens of homeless sleeping on the walls of the Holy See and, next to the Basilica of St. Peter, a queue is formed every morning and in the afternoon to receive food.

And even in Switzerland, poverty has been gaining ground. In December 2007, the city of Geneva decided to pull the beggars who, for the first time appeared in the elegant streets of the city.
